W I L L win
MAD MEN
after three consecutive wins it is still the frontrunner but after the delay of the newest season they might not have an easy way to victory.
still if this show has beaten stronger competition in the past, this might seem like an easy walk to a fourth win.
C O U L D win [based on the entire season]
BOARDWALK EMPIRE
after seven trophies at the creative EMMYs this show is a stronger contender than many thought; it definitely has pedigree and lots of supports from the craftsmen, but not the actors.
S H O U L D win [based on the entire season]
MAD MEN
between the SUITCASE and a mind blowing season finale, this show once again proves that it can have the perfect mix of high quality with complex themes, without any complications.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the episodes submitted]
the GOOD WIFE
the season was not as strong as it first, but the episodes submitted showcase the very best of this show, the actors obviously love them and sometimes that support can translate into an upset.

predicting the winners for…
outstanding LEADING performance by an ACTOR in a D R A M A series
.
W I L L win
JON HAMM in MAD MEN
yes, i’m betting on MAD MEN on taking three out of the four acting awards; yes, i’m betting the SUITCASE will win EMMYs for HAMM, MOSS and WEINER, but the truth is that episode is better than excelent.
if there is a safe bet it could be this race, HAMM is very overdue and he showcases his best acting skills in both the season overall, and the episode submitted.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the entire season]
STEVE BUSCEMI for BOARDWALK EMPIRE
after winning both the GOLDEN GLOBE and the SAG AWARD, we were all sure he was taking this too but after the buzz die down his performance doesn’t compare to JON HAMM’s.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the episodes submitted]
TIMOTHY OLYPHANT for JUSTIFIED
out of nowhere this show broke into the EMMYs, just like MARTINDALE he went from being in the running to an underdog, and he may win by showcasing the action, charm and confidence that made critics love him.

.
W I L L win
ELISABETH MOSS in MAD MEN
we’ve already talked about the SUITCASE, that infamous episode that became a huge hit in this show, it is truly a showcase of outstanding acting between her and JON HAMM.
this is a risky bet but this race has been getting harder and harder to predict, it is truly a three-way tie between her and the two COULD/SHOULD next.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the entire season]
MIREILLE ENOS for the KILLING
yes, both MARGULIES and MOSS are great in every episode of their shows but MIREILLE carries effortlessly this show without any glamour, she leads with little help.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the episodes submitted]
JULIANNA MARGULIES for the GOOD WIFE
last year she lost surprisingly due in large part to a terrible episode submission, but this year she chose well, it is truly a very good achievement where she balances lots of emotional story lines gracefully.

JOHN SLATTERY in MAD MEN
after three seasons this show has not won any acting awards, but they might break that curse this year and one of the lucky winners could be JOHN himself.
the episode submitted is his best one yet, he is featured in most of the episode and shows a range of emotions that he had not had a chance to display before.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the entire season]
JOSH CHARLES for the GOOD WIFE
he is almost a lead but sometimes he is definitely not, he is charming in a very cool, very snob way and his gaze is always deep and thoughtful.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the episodes submitted]
WALTON GOGGINS for JUSTIFIED
his character might be somehow a one-note character but his episode show more range, he very slowly reaches his boiling point and show some color at the end.

MARGO MARTINDALE in JUSTIFIED
a tour-de-force performance that will surely be remembered, both a scene stealer and a show stopper, she was not locked for a nomination even when she was the winning frontrunner.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the entire season]
MICHELLE FORBES for the KILLING
to be quite honest i have never been more impressed by an actress in tv; she truly makes you feel what her character is experiencing, the subtle way she stares at nothing, her body language and struggling tone of voice communicate the grief she is going through.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the episodes submitted]
ARCHIE PANJABI for the GOOD WIFE
to be quite honest again her character was over-written this season; after a surprising win last year the writers threw to many storylines at her but the one involving the affair with ALICIA’s husband did delivered and this episode showcase an arguement between the two when the secret is revealed.

this show has the most acting nominations in the drama series category [outside of the guest races], and MICHAEL J FOX was the highlight in a huge ensemble of guests the series featured.

the DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART
this show will win its ninth consecutive EMMY in this category (and most likely for the writing as well), the fast pace, hilarious intelligent writing plus an outstanding supporting ensemble makes this the winner.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the entire season]
LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON
although the COLBERT REPORT is a possible spoiler it is too similar to DAILY SHOW and if voters want something fresh and somehow original JIMMY FALLON has the answer.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the episode submitted]
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
call it wishful thinking if you want but SNL still manages to stay somehow current and make some pop culture waves, it is not what it used to but the JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE episode was beyond genius.

outstanding REALITY COMPETITION PROGRAM
.
W I L L win
the AMAZING RACE
it is the best show because it is entertaining and exciting, focuses enough on contestants but still concentrates on the competition, the fact that this show has the most diverse cast has always seal the deal and this season it returned with some of the most strange cast of all stars, instead of the usual fan favorites, it was some of the greatest competitors in recent seasons.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the entire season]
TOP CHEF
reality tv is religious experience and this season of TOP CHEF was one of the most exciting and interesting ever; bringing back a cast that featured the best players in the show’s history combined with the most amazing challenges made this season an experience like no other; but of course they submitted perhaps the least competitive and second worst episode of the season ruining their chances.
C O U L D / S H O U L D win [based on the episode submitted]
PROJECT RUNWAY
to be quite honest this was a great season for reality tv, AMAZING RACE, PROJECT RUNWAY and TOP CHEF delivered their best seasons in a while, and non nominated shows delivered as well; this show picked really smart submitting a heartfelt episode that showcases fan favorite MONDO GUERRA at his most humble but also his very best [designwise], this is one of RUNWAY’s most memorable episodes.

outstanding HOST for a REALITY or REALITY COMPETITION PROGRAM
.
W I L L win
JEFF PROBST for SURVIVOR
this show’s quality was not the best this past year, and EMMY’s love for the show has long gone, but this host is without a doubt the best of the bunch; he is not just the host of the show but the moderator in heated discussions at tribal council and that is something none of the competition does, he is no ordinary MC.
C O U L D win [based on the entire season]
CAT DEELEY for SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE
she is the fresh new face this year and sometimes voters are attracted to the new, this show received a lot of love this year so one can bet that she might win.
C O U L D win [based on the entire submitted]
PHIL KEOGHAN for the AMAZING RACE
yes, he is almost a robot but he submitted the UNFINISHED BUSINESS premiere where he narrates and introduces the cast, while most reality series show you who the competitors are, the AMAZING RACE actually just tells you giving this host lots of screentime, plus he somehow participates in the first challenge.
S H O U L D win
JEFF PROBST for SURVIVOR
hands down best reality show ever, he is a producer of that show but unlike other host/producers he actively challenges his role by thinking on his feet what would make that show better.

predicting the winners for…
all the MINISERIES & TV MOVIES categories
.
C O U L D win
outstanding MINISERIES or TV MOVIE
DOWNTON ABBEY
if EMMY goes for a surprising and unexpected win this show will be the lucky recipient of an award everyone is expecting MILDRED PIERCE to win.
outstanding DIRECTING in a MINISERIES or TV MOVIE
OLIVIER ASSAYAS for CARLOS / CURTIS HANSON for TOO BIG TO FAIL
the former should win and it could if the academy want to make out for that snub; the latter could win because he has the most knowable name, after TODD HAYNES, and his tv movie is nominated.
outstanding WRITING in a MINISERIES or TV MOVIE
JULIAN FELLOWES for DOWNTON ABBEY
this is the category where this show can most likely win, not including that supporting actress race, the GOSFORD PARK writer might not go empty handed for creating this miniseries.
outstanding LEAD performance by an ACTOR in a MINISERIES or TV MOVIE
IDRIS ELBA in LUTHER
if EDGAR RAMIREZ is found too foreign for the EMMYs, the academy’s new found love for this actor might result in a win for him in this category.
outstanding LEAD performance by an ACTRESS in a MINISERIES or TV MOVIE
ELIZABETH MCGOVERN for DOWNTON ABBEY
KATE WINSLET is winning and you can bet your life on it, if she did lose the award it would be the biggest upset in the ceremony.
outstanding SUPPORTING performance by an ACTOR in a MINISERIES or TV MOVIE
TOM WILKINSON for the KENNEDYS
the academy loves him and if there was something good, ok somehow good, about this show was the acting and he was the standout.
outstanding SUPPORTING performance by an ACTRESS in a MINISERIES or TV MOVIE
EVAN RACHAEL WOOD for MILDRED PIERCE
she is playing a very iconic character that might be the most memorable thing about the last episodes of this miniseries, she is a rising star and this category sometimes goes to newcomers.

GUY PEARCE in MILDRED PIERCE
this show leads the tally with 21 nominations including miniseries, directing, writing and six bids for acting, so you can bet on this show winning all the categories it is nominated in.
the best miniseries category, directing and writing seem like locks with both KATE WINSLET [for leading actress] and GUY PEARCE [for supporting actor] as safe bets in their races.
however, the best supporting actress category is the only [main] category where they could not win; with three nominations they might split the race, specially considering both MELISSA LEO and EVAN RACHAEL WOOD have strong support behind, even though i think MARE WINNINGHAM should win this race because she is not as over-dramatic like the other two.
outstanding LEAD performance by an ACTOR in a MINISERIES or TV MOVIE
EDGAR RAMIREZ in CARLOS
apparently subtitles frightened this academy as well because the best miniseries of this year was snubbed in the main category, even when the critically panned and undoubtedly artistically inferior THE KENNEDYS and THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH were nominated in their place, nonetheless EDGAR RAMIREZ is the frontrunner and the deserveful winner of the leading actor category.
outstanding SUPPORTING performance by an ACTRESS in a MINISERIES or TV MOVIE
MAGGIE SMITH in DOWNTON ABBEY
this show is another example of category fraud, miniseries never have a second season but this one will, nevertheless with the MILDRED girls splitting the votes MAGGIE SMITH critically acclaimed performance will prevail, she apparently isn’t the standout of the cast but this show might be the dark horse and the academy may want to award it here because they don’t have anywhere else.
